Abstract: 2nd Classics and Styles – Contemporary Noteworthy Artists Invitation Exhibition was closed at the beginning of June of 2014. Yan Minsheng’s contemporary maiden paintings which are integrate inheritance, innovation and sense of the times are quite refreshing and popular with young people. Young audiences declaimed, “Never thought maidens can be depicted in this way.”

Zhang Xiong Art correspondence(Article/Hu Ying)2nd“Classics and Styles”–Contemporary Noteworthy Artists Invitation Exhibition which was hosted by Culture Monthly and co-organized by Shenzhen Art Auction House,Chinese Businessmen,Beijing Shandong Enterprises Chamber of Commerce,was closed at the beginning of June of 2014.It was reported that some exhibits will be on tour exhibition in Guangzhou,Foshan and Shenzhen after the exhibition and auctioned at Wuzhou Hotel on July 13.
2nd“Classics and Styles”–Contemporary Noteworthy Artists Invitation Exhibition invited more than 60 contemporary traditional Chinese painters and contemporary oil painters with most influence and distinctive styles in Chinese art circle.More than 400 works were exhibited.The theme of the exhibition was the spirits of the times and innovation awareness.
On this exhibition,Yang Minsheng’s maiden paintings which integrate inheritance,innovation and sense of the times are quite refreshing and popular with young people.Young audiences declaimed,“Never thought maidens can be depicted in this way.”Yan Minsheng created maiden paintings with the modern aesthetic perspective and his own feeling of Chinese historical culture.On the basis of lining and coloring which was focused in traditional maiden paintings,he absorbed modern techniques to enhance the contrast of light and shade,warm colors and cold colors to further enhance the expressiveness of images.Meanwhile,he makes the figure feel more plumb and solid by applying techniques in Western sculpture.Yan Minsheng also integrates traditional Chinese philosophies into his creation style.His maiden paintings always feel loomed and hazy and create a realm of harmonious symbiosis and integration of human being and objects.
Yan Minsheng was born in 1951 in Shantou,Guangdong.He graduated from Department of Fine Arts of Fujian Normal University in 1976.He is a member of Chinese Artists Association,Vice-President of Xiamen Artists Association and a painter of Xiamen Academy of Painting and Calligraphy.His works Ruins Field and Crisis were selected for 7th National Art Exhibition,Taichi for 2nd National Sports Art Exhibition.In 2005,his Homeland was selected for National Chinese Painting Exhibition In Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Victory of War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.In 2006,his Gentle Breeze was selected for 3rd Chinese Artists Association Membership Chinese Painting Exhibition.He published Series of Foreign Exchanges of Chinese Artists-Yan Minsheng Artwork Collection.In 2011 CPPCC published Three Art Masters in memory of 100th Anniversary of the Revolution of 1911;these three masters were Liu Dawei,Fan Zeng and Yang Minsheng.He was enrolled into Chinese Online Teaching,a painting and calligraphy textbook for national adolescents which was edited by Chinese Online Teaching Center,together with several Chinese painting and calligraphy masters like Shen Peng,Liu Dawei,Wu Guanzhong and Fan Zeng.In 2011,his The Red Army Took Down Zhangzhou was selected for“Major Modern Historical Subjects Art Creation in Fujian”.
The maidens under Yan Minsheng’s brush are not only elegant but also full of ardor,integrating feminine tenderness,virtuousness,loftiness and heroism.
